Challenge Cup for 2013 Launched26 March 2013The Challenge Cup is a gardening competition for local schools. It is in the memory of Mrs Dorothy Stevenson, know to many as Gran. Gran was very keen on gardening and would be pleased to see her enthusiasm being passed down to younger generations. She lived and worked at Charlton Park until she was 101 years old. A picture of her starting the garden at Charlton Park in the 1920s can be seen below. This year we currently have twelve schools competing in the challenge to see who can grow the greatest weight of potatoes from the seed potatoes provided. Each school has bee given a pack which includes a potato planter, full instructions and an easy to follow recipe. We wish them all luck and hope for a better season than last year when even the professionals found potato growing tough.
